Lois (Christie) Johnson, age 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 29, 2018. Lois was born on October 19, 1927 in St. Paul, MN to Pearl (Havlisch) Christie and Robert Christie. Lois accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior in the summer of 1947.
She is survived by daughter Cynthia Simmons (Jon), daughter Lori Weible (Bob), and “like a son”, Tom Trang (Grace), seven grandchildren, Kimberly, Brandon, Shawn, Josh, Brittany, Benjamin, and Bethany, and four great-grandchildren, Thomas, Zella, Ava, and Evelyn. Lois is preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings Bob, Jan, Barbara, Marilyn, and Jean.
Lois graduated from Midwest Bible & Missionary Institute in St. Louis with majors in Christian Education and Bible Seminary. Lois met and married Stephen Johnson while both were students at the college. She was married 33 years.
Lois was a member of Fellowship Bible Church, Peoria. Her life was enriched and blessed with the knowledge that her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was her daily Companion, holding her hand to the end. She was active in Christian ministry for many years, teaching Sunday School, Good News Clubs, Pioneer Girls, and VBS. She also spent time as a missionary in rural areas of Tennessee and the Ozark Mountains. Lois introduced many, many people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ throughout her life.
Lois worked outside the home for 31 years, but her most rewarding work experience was with China Inland Mission (now OMF Int’l) for 13 years.
She also had a public speaking ministry, sharing how our faithful God kept every promise in His Word to her and her family. Her greatest privilege and joy was ministering in music with her daughters, Cindy and Lori, as a trio for 15 years, after leading them both to Christ when they were young. Additionally, Lois ministered to international students at Western Illinois University, being involved as a mentor, listener, counselor, and prayer warrior.
