

Lucy Jane Maxwell, age 92 ¼, of Peoria, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Unity Point Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. Lucy was born on October 12, 1921 in Decatur, IL to James Edgar and Ada Mable (McKee) Pierce. She married Robert J. Maxwell on December 5, 1942 in Decatur. He preceded her in death in 1985. Lucy is survived by her children, Nancy Wing of Peoria, IL, Richard (Karen) Maxwell of Longmont, CO, Catherine (William) Fusco of Peoria, IL, Karen (Roger) Buss of Mapleton, IL and Linda (Dennis) Hunt of Germantown Hills, IL; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three sister-in-laws, whom Lucy considered sisters, Jeannine Freyling of Decatur, IL, Judy Maxwell of Port Orange, FL and Lois Pierce of Champaign, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister, Vivian; and her three brothers, Marion, George and Donald. Lucy fulfilled her father’s dream of her continuing her education when she graduated from Millikin University with a Bachelor’s Degree. She was a Teacher for District 150, teaching second grade, fourth grade and math, until she retired in 1988. She was a member of University United Methodist Church, the Gems of the Prairie Quilters, Ruth Circle of the Women’s Society, the Peoria Area Retired Teachers Association, the Illinois Retired Teachers Association and the Peoria Area Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She enjoyed quilting, reading, and watching game shows and sports; she was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan; and she loved her Shelties. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to her. Services will be held on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 10am at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel with Rev. Paul Arnold officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 5pm to 7pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. Memorials may be made to University United Methodist Church or Snyder Village Assisted Living.
