

Marilyn Kay Albert Giffin passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022 at her home. She was born in Princeton, IL on July 10, 1940, and was the second of two children born to Harold and Irene Albert. She graduated from Princeton High School in 1958, graduated from the University of Illinois in 1962 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and an M.S. In Elementary Education in 1966. She was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She married David Giffin on June 16, 1963. They had 2 children, Kenneth of Denver, CO and Elizabeth of St. Paul, MN.
Surviving are her husband of over 59 years; her son, Ken; son-in-law, Steve Durian; her daughter, Elizabeth; son-in-law, Don Lorr; and granddaughter, Maude Lorr. Also surviving is her sister, Joanne Morrison of Naples, FL.
Marilyn was active in the Service League of Methodist Medical Center, having volunteered in the hospital gift shop for over 40 years. Her last position was stationery buyer. She was a long-time member of The Current Events Club of Peoria, which was founded in 1896, and is thought to be the oldest active women’s group in Peoria. She was also a long- time member of P.E.O., a national philanthropic organization which provides scholarships to women entering college. In addition, she belonged to the Kappa Delta Alumni Association, and was quite active in helping to establish a chapter house on the Bradley University campus.
She and her husband and children took many vacation trips to many locations in the United States, but their favorite spot was Estes Park, CO, where they spent two weeks in the summer more than 30 times, the last time being 2021.
Marilyn’s memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Peoria. Rev. Dr. Tim Ozment will officiate. Her memorial visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. also on Monday at the church. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Peoria or to St. Jude Hospital.
