

Mary L. Kennedy, age 89, of Peoria, passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2017 at 4:10 a.m. at her home after a long struggle with diabetes and heart failure. She was born on Nov. 11, 1927 in Oak Park, IL to Tom and Elsie (Bruster) Heitman. Mary was schooled on the West Chicago area. She took a job with the defense dept. in 1944. It was there she met her husband, William Kennedy when he returned from WWII in 1945. They were married Oct. 19, 1946 at St. Gregory’s Church in Chicago. Survivors include her husband of Peoria, one son, Kevin Kennedy of Peoria, and many nieces and nephews. Mary worked at the Peoria Commercial National Bank for several years and at Calkins Food Brokers. She was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church in Peoria. She enjoyed working with girls at the Peoria YWCA, was a volunteer at the Red Cross, and was a HUGE Chicago Cubs fan. A Funeral Mass will be Monday, Feb. 6, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the Church. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
