Melba Lorene Hargrave, 99, of Peoria, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023 at her home. She was born on October 14, 1923 in Mattoon, a daughter of Griffin Walter Young and Alberta Lee (House) Young. Melba married Pastor Charles E. Hargrave on October 27, 1940 in St. Genevieve, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 20, 2011 in Peoria.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Chuck Hargrave; and son-in-law, Pastor Bill Williams; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Melba is survived by her daughter, Beverly Williams of Peoria; daughter-in-law, Carole Hargrave of Fort Smith, Arkansas; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.
Melba was a faithful Christian and faithfully ministered with her husband for over 50 years in churches across Illinois and Indiana.
Melba's graveside service will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in rural Woodlawn. Her visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, August 18, 2023 at the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria.
