Merle Albert Hoener

Merle was born September 17, 1920 in Quincy, IL the son of Wiliam and Georgianne Bennett Hoener. He married Clara Sebinski on August 3, 1946. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2007.

He is survived by his three children, Susanne Nardini of Eureka, Pete (Marianne) Hoener of Charlotte, NC, and Leslie (Bill) Gehring of Peoria; four grandchildren, Sara (Michael) Schlueter of Washington, Jennifer (Jon Eric) Sullivan of Charlotte, NC, Katie Hoener of Austin, TX, and Lisa (Karl) Hoover of Charlotte NC; seven great-grandchildren, Colton Tedford, Breanna Schlueter, Samantha Sullivan, Mia Sullivan, Clara Sutherland, Lyla Hoover, and Hannah Hoover; one sister, Marie McNay of Springfield, MO.

Merle was also preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, William.

He was a United States Army Veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II.

Merle was a member of Grandview Masonic Lodge.

A special thank you to the families of Jonathan Ellison and Tad Mrazek for being part of Merle’s life.

Cremation rites will be accorded.

A Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday July 26, 2014 . Father Thomas Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.

Burial of ashes will be at a later date at Camp Butler.

Memorials may be made to Children’s Hospital of Illinois.
