

Michael “Mike” Scott Rickey, age 57, of Peoria, IL, passed away peacefully Monday, December 6, 2021, at 4:18 pm in his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Oct. 2, 1964, in Burlington, IA, to John and Joy (Watson) Rickey. He graduated from JD Darnall Sr. High School in Geneseo, IL, where he met the love of his life, Keri Wilcox. They were married on July 26, 1986, in Geneseo. She survives along with two sons: Jacob (Emily) Rickey of St. Louis, and Steven (Erica) Rickey of Peoria. Also surviving are his father- and mother-in-law, Ray (Judi) Young of Geneseo, brother- and sister-in-law, Doug (Dawn) Wilcox of Jackson, WI, nephew, Jordan (Deva) Murphy of Wauwatosa, WI, his mother and brother, Joy and Shawn Rickey of Geneseo, several cousins, and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, older brother who died at birth, and grandparents.
Mike earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from the University of Illinois and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Millikin University. He was an Engineer and Engineering Manager at Caterpillar, Inc., for 32 years until his retirement in 2020.
Mike had a passion for people. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. His other great joy was being on a golf course. Whether it was playing a round of golf with his friends or volunteering with his sons and wife at professional golf tournaments, Mike was in his happy place.
In September of 2019, Mike was diagnosed with ALS. He fought a courageous battle for the last two years of his life. Through it all he shared his unwavering faith, his infectious smile, and his witty sense of humor. More importantly, he worked with the ALS Association – Greater Chicago Chapter to bring awareness to others about ALS and the urgent need to find a cure for all those suffering from the terrible disease. He was a true champion and inspiration to so many.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 14, at 2:00 pm at the Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
