She was born on May 21, 1926 in Virginia, MN to C. Herbert and
Aida Kuhn Anderson. She married Victor W. Hughes, Sr. on
January 17, 1949 in Virginia, MN. He passed away on July 16,
1992.
Muriel is survived by one daughter, Vicki (Randy) Bahr of Peoria;
one son, Victor (Jan) Hughes, Jr. of The Woodlands, TX; and
three grandchildren, Meagan of London, England, Jonathan and
Allison of Savannah, GA. She was preceded in death by her
parents and brother.
Muriel was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister
and friend. She graduated from the University of Minnesota. She
was a registered therapeutic dietitian and worked in many
hospitals nationwide including OSF St. Francis Medical Center
until retirement. She then consulted part-time at several Peoria
area nursing homes.
Muriel loved the Chicago Cubs and was a devoted fan. She
attended spring training in Arizona for more than 20 years. She
celebrated many birthdays with her family at Wrigley Field. She
was an avid accomplished bridge player and belonged to
numerous bridge groups. She also knit thousands of caps for the
Children’s Hospital of Illinois NICU babies. Her very giving and
generous nature benefitted many charities during her lifetime.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Park Edge Condominiums Club House, 5200 N. Knoxville Avenue, Peoria. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Muriel’s name to the Children’s Hospital of Illinois, 530 NE Glen Avenue, Peoria, IL 61637.
