Nancy Kay (DeBolt) Schmitt

Nancy married Dennis Schmitt on April 26th 1969, who passed away on March 11th 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Georgia DeBolt, as well as her sister Carol Fischer.

She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Bogert and son in law Edward Bogert, her sister Beth (Fred) Ball, as well as many close cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Nancy was a devoted Christian and loved The Lord with all of her heart. She led several small group bible studies over the years, where she was able to live out her faith and demonstrate kindness and generosity. She also formed a widows group that became a close group of friends through the years.

Nancy had a quick and surprising sense of humor, that could brighten someone's day. For many she was a trusted confidant, friend, and prayer partner. She was extremely resilient, and through her faith, conquered the many challenges life presented to her.

Due to economic times in 1981, Denny, Nancy, and Jennifer moved to Gage, Oklahoma to start a new life. Denny worked for Texaco and they purchased a storefront in downtown Gage and opened Denny's Grocery. Denny continued to work for Texaco before changing course to work at the store full time with his wife Nancy. When Denny received a cancer diagnosis in 1992 they shortly thereafter returned to the Peoria area.

After Denny passed away in 1993, Nancy had several occupations before joining the City Clerk's Office of Peoria as the Township Bookkeeper, which included historical research projects that was her favorite part of the job. Among other duties she was assigned a task of finding the ordinance that permitted the city of Peoria to purchase the water company every 5 years. She found the 1895 ordinance that proved the city had the right, and the city won their lawsuit. Upon her retirement in 2013 she received a proclamation signed by the Mayor for her 17 years of service.

Visitation will be held at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home on Thursday August 27th at 2pm with a service officiated by Pastor Mike Wood to follow at 3pm. Private cremation and burial will be held at a later date.
