Peoria - Naomi Fishman, 91, of Peoria, passed away at 8:44 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2021 at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria. She was born on December 4, 1929 in Belleville, a daughter of Hyman and Fannie (Albertson) Peskind. She married Ralph Fishman on June 13, 1954. He survives.
Naomi is also survived by two daughters, Rita (Robert) Auritt of Philadelphia, PA and Selma Balk of Snohomish, WA; son, Alan (Elaine) Fishman of Loveland, OH; six grandchildren, Vanessa Auritt and Elizabeth Auritt, both of Philadelphia, PA, Jamie (Carla) Fishman of Glencoe, Amy (Jon) Kurz and Nathaniel Balk, both of Washington, D.C., and Nicolette (Brandon) Liukko of Monroe, WA; two great-grandsons, Noah and Benjamin Kurz and two on the way; sister, Bernadette Winter of Vernon Hills; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Malcolm Peskind.
Naomi was a graduate of Los Angeles City College and Bradley University. She worked as a kindergarten teacher for Peoria District 150, Creve Coeur, Champaign, and Oakland, CA schools.
Naomi was a member of the League of Women Voters, AAUW, Hadassah, and Congregation Anshai Emeth. She was active at temple as a teacher and choir member.
Naomi was very congenial and considered everyone to be her friend, this was evidenced by her contagious smile. She was involved in her family’s lives and always concerned about their welfare. She and Ralph traveled a great deal, especially to foreign countries. Naomi was an avid reader and enjoyed music.
