
He was born June 11, 1932 in Berlin NH, the son of Roland and Mildred Mangan Haines. He married Mary E Wilson on April 24, 1954 at First Methodist Church in Peoria.
Norris is survived by his wife of 62 years; one son, Raymond (Elizabeth) Haines of Oglesby; one daughter, Susan (Bill) Blocker of Brimfield; one granddaughter, Karinda (Ron) Schmidt ; and one grandson, Brent (Amanda) Blocker.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Norris served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a machinist for Caterpillar Inc. for over 40 years, retiring in 1997.
He enjoyed trips to the East Coast states of New Hampshire and Maine and family fishing vacations in Pardeeville, Wisconsin. He also enjoyed going to the western states with Ray, Betty and Karinda, and visiting his former Battleship, the New Jersey with Brent. Norris was a dedicated grandfather, traveling to watch his granddaughter participate in track and field events and his grandson’s Little League baseball games. He had a knack for woodworking and created special Christmas gifts for his family and friends to treasure. In later years he enjoyed watching movies and sports on television, especially his beloved Chicago Cubs. His favorite thing was time spent with family, most importantly his devoted wife Mary. Norris never met a stranger, and was charming and outgoing to everyone he met.
The family would like to extend thanks to the dedicated staff at St. Francis Woods who went above and beyond to assist in granting his wish to be “home” with his family.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday August 15, 2016 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 9:45 am. Pastor Mike Shirey will officiate.
Entombment will be in Chapel of Peace at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
