Surviving are his children Melodee Comenzo of Maitland, Fl, Steven(Deborah Arnold) Jett of Winter Garden, Fl, Brian Barnes of Peoria, and Susan (Chip) Unsicker of Peoria; One sister, Geraldine Wreidt; four grandchildren Elizabeth Unsicker, Luke Unsicker, Jenessa (Joshua) Wuebben and Gena Unsicker. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Elaine Iber, wife Alberta Crumley Barnes and wife, Margaret Joos, one infant son, Mark, his son-in-law, Jim, and brothers Mansil and Lowell.
After graduating from Peoria High School, Norval enlisted in the Army. He proudly served in Naples, Italy as an air depot clerk, Austria as a typist, and in France as a POW guard. He came back to his home town, Peoria, and started a family, managed an A&P grocery store, and was a buyer for Giant Stores. He finished his career as co-owner/operator of Derby Mart in Pekin and a realtor.
His greatest joy was raising his children and playing with his grandchildren. He enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, camping, fishing, photography, and golf. During his retirement years, he spent many winters in South Texas playing shuffleboard, bingo, and started a computer club. Norval loved music and delighted in hearing his children and grandchildren sing and play instruments. Though a quiet man, those that really knew Norval experienced the mischievous humorous side of him.
His ‘million dollar’ smile and warm spirit drew people to him. Honored to be called “PawPaw” by his caretakers, he held a special love for Rainy, Rica, and Kiana. He had one special “angel” from Visiting Angels, Myra. The family is grateful for the special care and extra special attention they gave him.
A longtime member of Bethany Baptist Church, Norval trusted in Jesus as a teenager. He was faithful to his Lord and Savior. He always said “It’s about God’s love.” And he highly supported mission work. He looked forward to going to Glory to be with his Savior and loved ones.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of Norval’s life will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church. Pastor Lyall Sutton will officiate. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
