Peoria – Paul Tamkin, 74, of Peoria, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on September 21, 1946 in Chicago to Dr. Louis and Marilyn (Somach) Tamkin. He married Mary Rose Kearns on September 19, 1970 in Peoria. She survives.
Paul is also survived by his two children, Amanda (Aaron) Kilgore of Peoria and Michael Tamkin of Bloomington; grandson, Alex Kilgore of Peoria; sister, Ellen (Robert) Michalak of Naperville; sister in law, Fern Tamkin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Dr. James Tamkin.
Paul served his country in the United States Army, a veteran of the Vietnam War Era.
He last worked as the office manager for Veterans Administration in Peoria, retiring in 1991. Paul previously had worked as a bus driver and in the parts department for GP Transit in Peoria for 10 years.
He was a 50-year member of Congregation Anshai Emeth in Peoria. He was a past member of the American Legion Post #2 in Peoria. Paul loved anything to do with trains, collecting memorabilia and model trains. He also was a past member of the B’nai B’rith Men’s Bowling League.
Paul’s graveside service will be private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Rabbi Bryna Milkow will officiate. There will be no visitation. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or Congregration Anshai Emeth.
