Prema Bhalla Dua

Prema was born on August 16, 1944 in Punjab, India to Rattan Singh Bhalla and Kunan Devi Bhalla. She married Prem Kumar Dua, who passed away in 1993. She later married Scott Lower in July of 2006 in Peoria, IL.

Prema is survived by her husband, Scott; her children, Meera Dua of Cincinnati, OH, Seema (Jeremy) Kauffman of Lake Zurich, IL and Geeta (David) Wood of Downers Grove, IL; her grandchildren, Saaya and Rayna Kauffman, and Connor, Jadyn and Dylan Wood; her siblings, Sudarshan Whig, Rita Madan, and Madan Gopal Singh Bhalla. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Prem Kumar Dua; her parents, and siblings, Manmohan Singh Bhalla and Raksha Bhandari.

Prema grew up in India with her parents and five siblings. She graduated from Baring Union Christian College. She then received her Master’s degree in Anthropology at the University of Punjab. She moved to the United States in 1968 after her marriage in India. She lived most of her life in Peoria, where she raised her three daughters and worked as a Professor at Illinois Central College for over 20 years. Prema was a member of the India Association and she enjoyed knitting, tennis and traveling.

Cremation rites were accorded and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 4:30pm Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Visitation will also be on Saturday from 3pm to 4:30pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude.
