

surrounded by loved ones after a year of battling multiple illnesses. Ramon was born April
5,1948 in Peoria, Illinois to Jose and Natalie Huerta.
Ramon grew up in Peoria, attended St. Boniface Grade School & Spalding High School. He was
the lead singer in the local band Daze of Night. He joined the Marines directly out of high school
and served his country from 1967-1974 in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged as a
Sergeant from the Marine Corps.
Upon returning to the U.S., Ramon started a family and worked at Sears for many years. Later,
he became a licensed hearing aid specialist for Miracle Ear. Ramon was a kind and loving
husband to his wife, Pat for 33 years, as well as an amazing father, grandfather, &
great-grandfather. He & Pat opened their home as foster parents for several years, adopting five
of their seven children. He would always say “I’m very rich with children.” Ramon enjoyed
singing, dancing, landscaping and having family fiestas.
Ramon was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Braden Huerta. Ramon is survived by
his wife, Patricia Huerta of Peoria, his seven children, Antonio Huerta (Vikki), John Huerta
(Roslynn), Brandon Huerta, Sierra Huerta, all of Peoria, AnaVictoria Gonzales (Michael) of
Metamora, Elena Huerta of Kewanee his ten grandchildren, Jeremy Horton Jr., Jordan (Lindsay)
Horton, Myranda, Diego (Marissa), Savion, Cecilia, & Emilio Huerta, Miguel and Sophia
Gonzales, Noah Crawford-Huerta and his great grandchild Louella Horton, his five siblings, Jose
Huerta of Huntington, IN, Dolores Bartlett (Greg) of Powder Springs, GA, Rosanne Linsley
(Scott) of Mission Viejo, CA, and Esperanza Huerta of Yuma, AZ, and many cousins, nieces, &
nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 1:00pm immediately followed by mass
at Saint Ann Catholic Church, 1010 S Louisa St, Peoria, IL 61605. Burial services will follow at
Saint Mary’s Cemetery, 421 N Sterling Ave, West Peoria, IL 61604. The family asks that any
donations made in Ramon's honor go towards the Greater Peoria Honor Flight or to the
UnityPoint Health - Central Illinois Hospice Foundation.
