He was born on April 21, 1932 in Peoria to Clarence A. and Elizabeth F. (Taylor) Phillips.
Dick is survived by nieces, Kim Wolpert of Peoria, Brenda (Mark) Hawthorne of OH, and Susan Barrett of FL, the son he never had, Frank “Dell” (Kris) Owens of IL, great-nephews, Andy (Tracy) Hawthorne of OH and Adam (Healy) Hawthorne of IL, and great-great-nieces, Madison and Ava Hawthorne. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Janet Sue (Richard) Barrett, nephew, Richie Barrett, and nephew-in-law, Rick Wolpert.
After his honorable discharge from the United States Navy, he worked in the printing profession as a labeler for Hiram Walker, and later Fast Printing.
Dick was of the Methodist faith and loved visiting all the local Methodist churches, but his home church was Grace United Methodist. He was a member of the Hiram Walker Rod and Gun Club, Lake Camelot Sportsmen’s Club, a proud graduate of Manual High School and many local dart ball leagues. Dick had a servant’s heart and delivered food for Illinois Harvest Food Bank for 15 years and was a faithful blood donor. He enjoyed fishing with Dell, playing cards in his free time, and one of his favorite past-times was cheering on the Chicago Cubs.
