Robert Bruce “Bob” Masek, 75, of Dunlap, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Born in Chicago, on April 27, 1951, he was the son of the late Robert J. and Emma Mildred (Urban) Masek. On September 25, 1976, he married Carol Sue White. Carol and Bob would have celebrated their 50th anniversary this September.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Masek; three children, Heidi (Glenn) Streetman, Robert J. (Elizabeth) Masek, and Holly (Jesse Atkins) Masek; two grandchildren, James Streetman and Roman Atkins Masek; and a sister, Millie (John) Squire. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
After graduating in Engineering at University of Illinois Chicago, Bob worked as a Truck Engine Representative at Caterpillar for 42 years. He loved everything with engines: including boats, trucks, snowmobiles, motorcycles, and his 1942 Dodge Truck, Big Red. While at Caterpillar he worked in Peoria, Switzerland, and for 27 years, Nashua, New Hampshire.
Bob was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church where he was the church liaison to Scout Troops #88 and #888. He was a passionate Scout. Bob became an Eagle Scout in 1968 and served as a counselor at Wisconsin’s Camp Mach-Kin-O-Siew from 1967 to 1973. While living in New Hampshire he was the troop leader for his son Rob’s troop.
Bob was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Bob and Carol loved traveling together, especially visiting their children and grandsons in New Hampshire, California, and Minnesota. Bob MC’d ice skating competitions with Holly, drive Rob’s robots across the United States, and helped Heidi and Glenn remodel their home. He also enjoyed cooking, particularly Czech dishes, for his family and friends. He will especially be remembered by the Waterford Place neighborhood as “Mr. 4th of July”, as he hosted 100 young neighbors for a bicycle parade and fireworks every year since moving there in 2005. Bob made friends and memories wherever he went. He will be greatly missed by the many who knew and loved him.
