PEORIA - Roberta Elizabeth Foster, 88, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2021 at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria, IL surrounded by loved ones. Born April 8, 1932 in Princeton, IL to Leslie and Effie (Teagarden) Gray, she married the love of her life, Wes Foster, on May 2, 1954 in Kewanee, IL. He survives. Roberta is survived also by two daughters, Dianne (David) Klumpe of Dunlap, IL and Karen (Tom) Fenelon of Chillicothe, IL; four grandchildren, Megan Klumpe of Chicago, IL, Mark Klumpe of Dunlap, IL, LTJG Elizabeth (LTJG Brian) Greggs of Norfolk, VA, and Michael Fenelon of Chillicothe, IL. She is further survived by a sister-in-law, Joyce Gray of McCall, ID, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as five brothers and four sisters-in-law: Ronald (Dorothy) Gray of WI, Walter (June) Gray of MI, Ken (Dorothy) Gray of MI, Lloyd (Nancy) Gray of CA, and her twin brother, Robert of ID. Roberta was raised in Kewanee, IL and graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1950. After moving to Peoria, she worked for Caterpillar until her children came along. She was a longtime member of University United Methodist Church. Roberta dearly loved spending time with family and enjoyed every holiday. Following her daughters’ activities and subsequently those of her grandchildren brought her much happiness. She rarely missed a single grandchild’s academic event, athletic competition, or band concert. What brought her the most happiness, however, was her husband, Wes, and they were blessed with 66 loving years together. Roberta will be remembered for her deep devotion to family and friends, her abiding faith, her sunny giggle, and her love of laughter. The family would like to recognize and thank the dedicated staff at Lutheran Hillside Village and OSF Hospice for their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Roberta’s name may be made to her church, Lutheran Hillside Village Foundation, or OSF Hospice. Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 15, 2021 at University United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior. Mask wearing and social distancing will be practiced. Uncle Wes, Dianne and Karen, (and families) I am so sorry for your loss. I wish I could be there to give you all a big hugs. She was like a mom to me. I spent so many summers with your family. I felt like one of the kids. The rules applied to me, just as they did with Dianne and Karen. Just as the benefits of being part of a family, applied to me, as well.

I remember one meal in particular. There were peas left over at the end of dinner. She offered them to me, as dessert. I eagerly ate them, while my cousins were aghast. Who would eat peas for dessert?! Aunt Roberta didn't think it was strange at all. I think she liked that finally there was a kid in the house, who would eat whatever was presented to her.

Aunt Roberta, you will be very missed. Thank you for helping me, and loving me. Julie

Hi Wes, I was sorry to hear about Roberta's passing. Linda keeps me informed about the activities in Illinois. I've been living in AZ for 30 years so she is a big help in keeping me informed. I will always remember our getting reacquainted at Shillinger's at 905 Kansas, the day before we went to work at Cat. Also the times that we were together in both Kewanee and Peoria. You have my sympathy.
