Roger Alan Goodwin

Roger Alan Goodwin, 89, of Elmwood, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at UnityPoint Health - Proctor in Peoria. He was born on August 20, 1933 in Peoria, a son of Lawrence and Marvella (Smith) Goodwin. He married Dolores Berry on October 21, 1955 in Peoria. She survives.

Roger is also survived by his two children, Lynette Long of Elmwood and Christopher Goodwin (Jenni Holloway) of East Peoria; four grandchildren, Justin, Caitlyn, Aaron, and Hannah; and four great-grandchildren, Charlie, Sam, Kennedi, and Ava.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Sherrill.

Roger was a graduate of Woodruff High School in Peoria, Class of 1951. He then served his country in the United States Army.

In his younger years he enjoyed working on cars and drag racing with his wife at Boondocks Dragway. Later in life he enjoyed woodworking, making small gifts for family and friends.

Roger last worked as a district manager for the Peoria Journal Star, retiring in February of 1995.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Elmwood and was a past member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brimfield. Roger was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a past member of the University Avenue East Neighborhood Association, West Bluff Neighborhood Association, and the West Bluff Council.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. A memorial service will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
