She was born April 7, 1933 in Hartford, IA to Eleuterio and Cecilia (Coronado) Chavez. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert E. Phillips June 13, 1953 and he preceded her in death on April 9, 1973.
She then married Norman G. Lucas on August 8, 1987 and he preceded her in death on February 8, 2012 after a long illness. Her parents, and three sisters, Mary Pruss, Ophelia Morales and Connie Cantu also preceded her in death.
Surviving is her beloved son, David E. Phillips who was a thoughtful and devoted son, her loyal grandson John R. Phillips who was there for her whenever she was hospitalized and afterwards. Also surviving are her two sisters, Carmen (Donald) Hodge of Peoria and Lupe Medina of Bartonville; three brothers, Tony (Kay) Chavez of Surprise, AZ, Joe Chavez and Albert (Debbie) Chavez all of Peoria and many nieces and nephews.
Rose attended Manual Training High School and graduated in 1951. After being widowed in 1973, she attended I.C.C. through a government grant. She managed to get on the Dean's List for having an A average. She worked at the Peoria County Supervisor of Assessments from 1974 until retiring in 1990.
She enjoyed dancing and thoroughly enjoyed time spent with her family at get togethers. She belonged to a wonderful group of "Girls"; which formed their monthly Bunco group. They were all a very caring and thoughtful group of women.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 5 to 7 pm at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. A funeral mass will be on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 10 am with visitation from 9 to 9:45 am at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. Cremation will follow the service and burial of the urn will be at a later date.
