

Rosetta J. “Rosemary” Blomeyer, 89, of Peoria passed away on Tuesday December 25, 2012 at Manor Court Liberty Village in Peoria. Rosemary was born on September 27, 1923 in Leighton, IA, the daughter of Cornelius J. & Marie VanderHoek DeBruin. She married Dean P. Blomeyer on September 4, 1948 in Pella, IA. He preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons, Alan D. (Barbara) of Milwaukee, WI, and David L. of Carbondale, IL; one daughter, Carol J. (Bob) Bibbs of Virginia Beach, VA; one sister Willa Mae Bensink of Montezuma, IA; one brother Orlo W. (Aleatha) DeBruin of Albia, IA; and six grandchildren. One brother, Ronald DeBruin, also preceded Rosemary in death.
Rosemary graduated from Pella, IA High School in 1940, and received a diploma in nursing in 1944 from St. Thomas Mercy Hospital, Marshalltown, IA. She was recruited for military service and served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in WW II in the Philippines. After the war she furthered her education to become a Nurse Anesthetist, working at Methodist Hospital in Peoria until her retirement in 1960.
Rosemary was a member of PEO Sisterhood Chapter FB, American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, As You Like It Club, and Methodist Medical Center Service League. She greatly appreciated the classical arts, supporting the Peoria symphony, opera, ballet and theater.
Rosemary was a member of First Federated Church of Peoria since 1948, where she served as a Deacon and choir member for many years. An accomplished pianist, she shared her love of music by teaching piano lessons to many students and her three children for years. She enjoyed camping and the outdoors and was an avid gardener. With her husband Dean she traveled the world extensively, including several favorite trips to Africa,Cremation rites will be accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at First Federated Church. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, January 4 from 6-8p.m. The Rev. Dr. Forrest Krummel, Jr. will officiate. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to her church, at 3601 N. Sheridan Rd.
