

Mrs. Brown was born March 15, 1913 in Peoria, Illinois the daughter of Eta and Sam Erlichman. Mrs. Brown is survived by sons David Brown (Charleston, SC), Robbie Brown (Hawthorn Woods, IL), Philip Brown (Mokena, IL), daughter Aleene Fraser (Beaver Creek, CO), sister Lena Cannell (Belfast, Maine) and 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Sally Brown was the matriarch of the Brown’s Sporting Goods chain founded by Maury Brown, who, along with Sally and their sons and daughter operated the Brown’s Sporting Goods chain headquartered in Peoria for 54 years.
Mrs. Brown graduated from Manual High School in Peoria. She was very active in athletics (basketball, tennis, golf) and was an accomplished dancer.
She achieved Life Master Status in bridge. Mrs. Brown was active in charitable work throughout her life--she worked for years on the Crisis Intervention Hot Line, was a member of Anshai Emeth Sisterhood and Hadassah. Mrs. Brown worked as a toy buyer for Brown’s in addition to raising four children, managing a household and being a wife to Maury Brown who passed away in 1974.
Graveside Services for Mrs. Brown will be in Peoria at the Peoria Hebrew Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2011.
