Sandra Lee (Knox) Wassi, 77, of Hanna City, IL, passed away on July 31, 2026, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. Sandy, also known to some as “Sam” was born on July 4, 1949, in Peoria, IL, to Walter and Betty Knox.
She is survived by her husband, George Wassi; and her children, Jeannie (Robert) Thrasher, Scott (Jessica) Stanton, and her step-son, Brent (Tonja) Wassi. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sydnie Rush, Conner Rush, Bailey Thrasher, Becca (Koehler) Miller, Blaine Stanton, Mason Stanton, Brayton Wassi and Taylor Wassi; one great-granddaughter, Norah Miller; and one great-granddaughter on the way. Sandy is also survived by her step-dad, Henry Knox; sisters, Connie (Robert) Hartseil and Brenda Athens; one brother, Henry Allen Knox; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Betty Knox; and her sisters, Marlyn “Marty” Cooper and Becky Rogers.
Sandy worked in the dental field for many years as a dental assistant and receptionist. She loved going for rides in the country looking at wildlife, and spending time with her beloved George. She loved jewelry and shoes and would often pick up little gifts for people that she loved when she was out shopping and thought of others. Sandy loved to watch Western shows and listen to country music. She was a Tony Stewart fan and attended many NASCAR races over the years. She doted on her cats and cared for animals of all kinds. To know her was to have a friend that loved to laugh. She was a loving and supportive mother and grandmother who often shared how proud she was of her children and grandchildren. Sandy was an excellent cook and made a perfect pitcher of sweet tea.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral home, 2408 W Willow Knolls Dr., Peoria IL, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Swan Lake Memory Gardens, on War Memorial Drive in Peoria, IL.
