Steven L. Ament, age 66, of Peoria, passed away Tuesday January 7, 2014 at 3:15 p.m. at his residence. He was born July 25, 1947 in Yorkville, Illinois to John “Bob” and Louise (Bornemeier) Ament. He married Janie (Hamby) June 24, 1999 in Peoria.

She survives along with one son, Steve (Dawn) Ament of College Station, Texas, one daughter, Wendy (Shawn) Hale of Brimfield, five grandchildren: Tristan and Audrey of College Station, Texas, Brandon, Gavin, and Autumn of Brimfield. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steve graduated from Yorkville High School in 1965 and from the University of Illinois in 1969. Steven began his career with Caterpillar within the Engines Division, serving in positions of increasing responsibility within U.S. and overseas markets throughout his career. He retired from Caterpillar following 30 years of faithful service. Steven has most recently been employed by Morton Supplies (of Morton, Illinois).

He immensely enjoyed working on and restoring automobiles, was an avid motorsports fan, and enjoyed volunteering at the South Side Mission during Holidays. Steve was an avid pool player, playing in several Peoria area pool leagues.

He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Funeral services will be Sunday January 12, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Visitation will be two hours prior to the services. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.

Memorials may be made to the South Side Mission at 1127 S Laramie St, Peoria, Illinois.

Just heard of Steve's passing today, was a classmate of his in all the Yorkville Illinois schools.
Always a thrill to see him at class reunions.

Sorry for your family's loss. I met Steve when he joined our Trolley pool team. We had many conversations about many different things. Good man. He will be missed.
