Steven Robert Wetterauer

He was born May 7, 1962 in Peoria to Robert and Eleanor (Riechert) Wetterauer. He married Danette Sharp on October 13, 1984 in East Peoria. She survives along with four daughters: Lindsay (Brett) Still of Washington, Alyssa (Wil) McBurney of Wilmington, North Carolina, Natalie (Pat) Brown of Washington, and Valerie (Jared) Saddoris of Brownsburg, Indiana. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Conner, Mackenzie, Isaac and Hailey Still all of Washington, Tres, Lincoln, and Lily McBurney all of Wilmington, North Carolina, Jolene, Jaclyn, and Jacob Brown all of Washington, Avery, Madalyn and Owen Saddoris all of Brownsburg, Indiana, one brother, John Wetterauer of Peoria, and two sisters: Diane Monroe of Peoria and Sue Moore of Peoria.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a graduate of Limestone Community High School 1980. He worked for his father from 1980-1987 at Wetterauer Excavating. Then worked in residential construction for Fauser and Trotter Home Builders, Campen and Moye Custom Home Builders, Scott Bosecker Builder, Dan Waibel Design Builders, Worthington Builders in which he left to start a partnership called S&S Fine Home Building in 1991. In June of 2001 Steve owned and operated Steve Wetterauer Fine Home Building LLC until his retirement this year.

Faith was an important part of Steve’s life. He was a longtime member of East Peoria United Methodist Church and later Connect Church in Washington. His faith in Christ shaped both his work and his relationships, building a life marked by service, community, and friendships that meant the world to him.

Steve loved the outdoors whether it was biking, fishing, hunting, hiking or scuba diving. He was a master craftsman when it came to woodworking, creating furniture, children’s toys and bowls. Steve loved a life of integrity and service. A job is never finished until it had his stamp of approval. He used his skill even at church. Lastly, he loved his family and his country. He places value and exploring God‘s natural wonders by visiting 49 of the National Parks. Some of his best memories are of the adventures he had with his family. Steve was a believer in Christ who loved and cared deeply.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Steve’s life will be on Monday July 6, 2026 at 5 p.m. at Connect Church in Washington. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital, Connect Church Youth Room, or Theresa Tracy Trot Strive to Survive for Peoria area Pancreatic Cancer research.
