Teddy Eugene McLaughlin

Born on November 6, 1964, Teddy was the son of Cleo (Gibbs) McLaughlin and Charles E. McLaughlin Jr.

On January 25, 2003, Teddy married the love of his life, Amber L. Thornton. Together, they shared a loving family with their two children, Charles E. McLaughlin III (Ava Wallick), father of Teddy's beloved granddaughter, Mia M. McLaughlin, and Sophia E. McLaughlin (Zander Croland).

Teddy is also survived by his older brother, Terry McLaughlin of Morton, Illinois, and Terry's sons, Joey and Tracy McLaughlin; his older sister, Diane (Bob) Andrews of Clinton, Illinois, and her children, Joseph (Amy) Spencer and Katie (Alex) Lovell and their family; his brother-in-law, Nick Hoffman of Varna, Illinois, and his family; his brother-in-law, Jeffery L. Thornton of Dunlap, Illinois; his sister-in-law, Nichole V. Alvarez, and Teddy's nephew, Emmett C. Alvarez; and his brother-in-law, Manuel Alvarez, along with his niece, Bianca Setiadi (Jackson Morrison).

Teddy was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Charles E. McLaughlin Jr. of Dunlap, Illinois; his sister, Debbie Hoffman of Varna, Illinois; his sisters-in-law, Kathy McLaughlin of Peoria, Illinois, and Pam McLaughlin of Morton, Illinois; and parents-in-law, Lonnie and Cindy Bohannan of Dunlap, Illinois.

Teddy graduated from Dunlap High School in 1983 and remained deeply connected to the community he proudly called home throughout his life. A familiar face around Dunlap, he dedicated countless hours to the Dunlap High School baseball program. He became affectionately known as the "Voice of the Eagles" for his years announcing middle school and high school athletic events. His unmistakable voice and unwavering support of local student-athletes made him a cherished part of the Dunlap community.

After graduation, Teddy continued announcing athletic events while also volunteering as an assistant coach for the Dunlap High School baseball program. His passion for sports extended far beyond the game itself; it was rooted in encouraging young athletes, building friendships, and giving back to the community that meant so much to him.

Later in life, as his son grew older, Teddy became actively involved with the Chillicothe Junior Football League. What began as support for youth football evolved into years of dedicated service, eventually leading him to become Director of the Chillicothe JFL. In that role, Teddy worked alongside many friends and mentors, helping provide opportunities, guidance, and lasting memories for countless young athletes and their families.

Throughout his life, Teddy built a career defined by hard work and dedication. Among the many roles he held, he proudly worked for Chillicothe Metal Company for 23 years before continuing his career at Caterpillar in Mossville, Illinois. He later joined the Pearce Community Center in Chillicothe, Illinois, where he remained until 2018.

Above all, Teddy will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, his love of youth athletics, and the countless hours he devoted to serving his community. His voice, generosity, and presence touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life honoring Teddy will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Dunlap American Legion, located at 5511 Legion Hall Road, Dunlap, Illinois 61525.

Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Teddy's life, sharing memories, and honoring the lasting impact he had on all who knew him.
