Thomas Edward Trefzger Sr.

Thomas E. Trefzger Sr, 87, of Peoria passed away at 2:45 pm Thursday, April 27, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. He was born May 24, 1929 in Peoria, the son of Charles J. and Dora Trockur Trefzger. He married Betty Rogy on September 3, 1955. Thomas is survived by his wife of 62 years; two sons, Thomas Trefzger Jr, and Timothy Trefzger both of Peoria; one brother, John Trefzger of Bloomington. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles J. Jr.; and one sister, Mary Hurd. Thomas was a 1947 graduate of Woodruff High School. He later graduated from The American Institute of Baking in Chicago. Thomas was a foreman at Trefzger’s Bakery for many years. He is a member of First English Lutheran Church. Tom enjoyed playing football and running track in high school. He also enjoyed swimming, watching sports, (especially Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Bradley Braves, and Peoria Chiefs) and spending time with family. In retirement he and Betty found new activities as part of OSF Saint Francis Heart Rehab exercise group at both Altorfer Drive and Riverplex, and the monthly lunches with Woodruff High School Class of 1947 Reunion Group. Tom also served as Betty’s “assistant” with the First English Lutheran Church Young at Heart Group. The family would like to thank all of the staff of Lutheran Hillside Village for Tom’s care the past five years, and also to thank all of the staff that cared for him at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in his final days. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at First English Lutheran Church of Peoria. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Monday, May 1, 2017 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, and an hour prior to services at the church. Pastor Trudy Foote will officiate. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery. Memorials may be given to First English Lutheran Church of Peoria, Lutheran Hillside Foundation, or The Alzheimer’s Association.
