Thomas Zolton Rinkach,age 80, passed peacefully Sat July 17. Born in Chicago,IL to Margaret and Zolton Rinkach, Tom had one sister Phyllis- all of whom have passed. Also preceding Tom’s death was his wife of over 50 years, Nancy. Surviving are his three children Neil Rinkach, Jackie (Brian) Elsesser, and Lisa (John) Basham. He also had six grandchildren Mason, Bryce, Lauryn, Ella, Ty, and Lyvia.
Tom had an eclectic mix of hobbies and interests. He loved traveling, golfing,and fishing. He also had interests in cars and a love of animals. In his early years, he was active in Boy Scouts. South Haven,MI was in the heart of his upbringing where he spent most summers. He also had a pilot’s license and loved to fly his Mooney to various places in the country. He had many stories of adventure and mischief.
Tom was an entrepreneur of many businesses including a photography business, PolyGenerics Chemical Co., and two Hallmark stores. In his retirement years, Tom drove a bus for Peoria Charter to continue his love of travel. He and Nancy were active in their church-First United Methodist-Peoria,IL. One of the highlights of serving was a mission trip with the church to Liberia.
Not only did he donate to his church and the Alzheimers Association, but also many wildlife and animal rescue foundations. By his request, Tom will be cremated and a memorial service is planned for Mon Aug 2-1:00pm at First United Methodist Church in Peoria,IL.
