Vera Whitaker

Vera was born June 13, 1922 in Chatham, IL, to Charles and Essie (Cross) Childers. She spent most of her childhood in Versailles, IL. She married Clay Whitaker in June 1960. He passed away May of 1988 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by one son, Benny Whitaker and one brother, Francis J. Childers.

Survivors include three sons: Eddie Butler of Valrico, FL, Joe (Susan) Butler of Princeville, IL, Jim (Jeanette) Butler of Shepherd, TX, one step-son, Robert (Claire) Whitaker of Peoria, one step-daughter, Sharon Sutherland of Moline, IL, thirteen grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.

Vera worked at the Peoria State Hospital in Bartonville, then Buehler Home in Peoria until retiring. She loved spending time outdoors fishing and mushroom hunting.

Funeral services will be Friday Nov. 5, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
