Virginia Faye Hatton (nee Snodgrass), age 93 of Peoria, passed away August 2, 2021, from complications after a blood clot in her leg. She had lived in Peoria since 1945. She passed away with her daughter at her side, who took loving care of her for the last seven years. She was born October 16, 1927, in Butler County, Kentucky. She excelled in school and graduated high school two years early.
She was a loving mother and grandmother. Early in her career, she was an administrative assistant at Caterpillar Tractor Company. After raising her children, she worked at the National Aluminum pan factory. She was always active in the mother’s club at Kingman Grade School and was a room mother for both of her children every year they attended Kingman. When her daughter became a teacher in Peoria, she was a room mother for the classes her daughter Bobbie taught at Longfellow and Kingman. She was supportive and facilitated her children’s success while letting them make their own important life decisions. She was always supportive of others and always put her family before herself. She had a kind personality and never had a harsh word for anyone – even when they deserved one.
She was always very active; she started walking every day long before “walking for exercise was a thing.” She joined a gym later in life and loved doing water exercises. She was always very fit.
Her ancestors came to America from England in the early 1600’s. She was a descendant of the Swift family, which was her grandmother’s maiden name. The Swifts fought in the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and Civil War [on the side of the Union Army]. Her ancestors migrated from Virginia to Pennsylvania, to Tennessee, and eventually settled in Butler County, Kentucky, where she was born.
She is survived by her children, Bobbie S. Shults (nee Hatton) of Peoria, and Randy C. Hatton (Cindy) of Fernandina Beach, Florida, and her grandchildren, August Hatton (Brooke) of Gainesville, Florida, Ryon Hatton Shults (Sarah) of Aurora, Colorado, Cara Hatton of Gainesville, Florida, and Aaron Shults (Kamila) of Champaign, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Robert Charles Hatton, her dear son-in-law Ronald Shults, her mother Bertha Wilson Snodgrass, and her father Harvey Snodgrass, who died when she was only 3 years old. She was also preceded in death by her loving companion Nelson Stewart.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria, with visitation a half hour before, beginning at 9:30 AM.
