Virginia E Johnson, 100, of Peoria passed away at 5:53 pm Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Grandview Assisted Living. She was born September 24, 1918 in Brereton, IL the daughter of Joseph and Bertha Carper Mercer. She married William Johnson March 3, 1940 in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death. Virginia is survived by two daughters, Judith Burgett of Brimfield, Barbara (Robert) Hagemeier of Germantown Hills; one son, Douglas Johnson of Peoria Heights; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, She is also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, William L Johnson and Nicholas L Johnson; and six brothers. Virginia selflessly devoted her life to her family. Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Springdale Cemetery in Peoria. Memorials may be made to Boys Town. When I was young (8 -11 or so) Mom and Dad would go out on New Year's Eve, and I would stay the night at Aunt Virginia and Uncle Bill's house. I shall never forget the array of cookies that Aunt Virginia had made. Uncle Bill would come home from his second job just in time for us all to celebrate the announcement of the New Year by the siren at Pabst Brewery. I know that Uncle Bill did something also but cannot remember exactly what it was. I

I am so sorry that the generation that bore and raised us no longer has a representative on earth - only in our cherished memories. Thanks to the Johnson household for hosting my parents on so many occasions as they stopped in Peoria on the way to elsewhere.
