Walter Lee Hardin Sr.

He was born on July 20, 1935 in New Albany, Mississippi to Talmon D. and Birdie “Lee” Hardin.

He married Ora Lee Spight on April 1, 1966. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2019. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, James “Jack” Wesley Hardin; grandsons, Dashawn Lowery and Wesley Hardin; and granddaughter, LaToya Lowery.

Surviving are children, Janice Lowery of Peoria, Walter L. (Petra) Hardin Jr. of El Paso, TX, Aleen (Rev. Dr. Warren) Dillon of Atlanta, GA, and Talmon Hardin of Killeen, TX; 25 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Jimmie “JD” (Joyce) Hardin of Peoria; one sister, Debra (Kenneth) Whitelow of Peoria; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Walter was raised up in the Zion Baptist Church and later rededicated himself and became of member of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries. He accepted Christ early in his life.

He graduated from Browns College with his Bachelor's Degree in Business Majoring in Accounting and Auditing from Browns Peoria School of Business. It is now called Midstate College.

He enlisted into the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1960.

He was hired by Caterpillar and retired after 45 years as a Supervisor in the Logistics Department. He was one of the First African American Manager at that time. He later became a part of In His Image Bible Institute International as a board member.

Walter loved to read, debate and watch Western movies. He also loved to ride his motorcycle.

He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of City On A Hill Church.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2022 also at the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Warren Dillon will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Parkview Cemetery.
