

Walter Joseph "Mudduck" Laylock, 72, of Peoria, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025 at his home surrounded in love by his family. He was born on January 29, 1953 in Peoria, a son of Fred and Betty Laylock. He married Rae Ann Marvel on August 27, 1977, and spent 47 years in loving marriage by her side.
He is also survived by his two daughters Cassie and Trace McIntosh, and Nichole and Ryne Komnick, six grandchildren Zoe, Aidan, Ryne, Cruze, Abraham, and Raelee, and one great-grandson Cayden. He is survived by one sister Pat Starrett and one brother Rick and Kathy Laylock, as well as several nieces, one nephew, and his mother-in-law Darlene Marvel.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joy and Mike McFarden, and his father-in-law Ray Marvel.
He served his country in the United States Air National Guard from 1971-1977 and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked at Caterpillar for 38 years traveling the world working with dealers in all different countries, and leading teams with his steadfast loyalty and experienced skill. He was a Six Sigma Black Belt known for maintaining the utmost honesty and integrity in all that he did. He also served as a trustee in the township of Forsyth for five years, as well as in the township Metamora for eight years.
When not hard at work Walt could be found spending time with family, playing or watching football, playing music, hunting, golfing, serving in his community, and supporting his grandkids in all of their activities. He was also a life-long member of Christ Lutheran Church Peoria where he served and volunteered regularly.
Walt's funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 28th, at Christ Lutheran Church Peoria with Pastor Karl Eckhoff officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 27th, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. An additional visitation will take place from 10:00-10:45 AM on Wednesday at the church. Burial will take place at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
