Peoria – Wanda Jean Barnett, 89, of Peoria, passed away peacefully at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born in McLeansboro on February 12, 1932 to Andy and Thelma (Free) Mitchell. She married Bert Doyle Barnett on July 28, 1951 in McLeansboro. He preceded her in death on December 6, 2016 in Peoria.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and son-in-law, Robert R. Schultz. Wanda is survived by her two daughters, Marilyn Schultz and Carolyn Gallagher, both of Peoria; two step-daughters, Brenda (Larry) Pearson and Gaila (Gary) Morris, both of Mt. Vernon; granddaughter, Amber (Joel) Wuthrich of Peoria; grandson, Nathaniel Schultz of Mapleton; two great-grandchildren, Bjorn and Raistlyn Schultz; sister, Lavanda Williams of Peoria; brother, Carl Mitchell of Belvidere; several step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Cedar Hills Baptist Church in Peoria.

Wanda loved spoiling her grandchildren and having them stay over when they were little. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, growing flowers and being a homemaker. In Bert’s final years of enduring Alzheimer’s, she faithfully cared for him at home as long as she could. When he had to go to managed care, she visited him daily, completely wearing herself out and thinking of herself last. She was kind to everyone and was very devout in her beliefs. A special thank you for all the support and care from UnityPoint Methodist Hospice and our nurse, Trisha.

Wanda’s funeral service will be private at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Pastor Tim Beddingfield will officiate. There will be no visitation. Interment will be in Mt. Hawley Cemetery in Peoria. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Hills Baptist Church in Peoria.

Online condolences may be made to Wanda’s family at www.davison-fulton.com.

Sorry to hear of Wanda's passing. I always looked forward to her cards and letters. I hope I will continue to hear from your family sometimes. I know you took good care of her and that you will miss her terribly. I was just thinking of the song that Bert wrote about her. Now we can think of the old Buck Owens song" Together Again". I pray that you will be comforted by your faith and your memories.
Love,
Betty Hunsinger
