Zeb was preceded in death by his parents Sandra and Zebedee Gardner as well as his brother Zachary.
Zeb married Hedy Elliott in Trinidad in 2003. Together they built a loving family and share four children Romi, Gia, Arthur, and Zachariah as well as a special “daughter,” Lakeshia. Zeb was an extraordinary father, and his children were the center of his world. He was deeply proud of them and cherished the time they spent together.
Zeb graduated from Richwoods High School and studied Fire Science at Illinois Central College. He proudly served the Peoria Fire Department for over 30 years. Zeb was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering dependability. Those same qualities carried into his home life, providing his family with stability, security, and a comfortable life, for which they are forever grateful.
After retiring in 2022, Zeb embraced his passion for all things fast and on wheels. He loved cars—both vintage and new—as well as motorcycles, scooters, dune buggies, and RC cars. Many weekends were spent at the racetrack, often traveling from state to state, doing something he truly loved.
Zeb also had a special love for dogs. He even kept designated “dog cars” just for them. He enjoyed taking them along while running errands around town and bringing them to the riverfront for peaceful walks.
Though Zeb lived a very private life, those fortunate enough to be part of his inner circle know they were better for it. His quiet wisdom, practical nature, strength, and loyalty left a lasting impact on those who knew and loved him.
The family will hold a private funeral, with a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to River City Raceway NFP, 244 Herget St., Pekin, IL 61554, or to the Peoria Public Schools Foundation for the Zeb Gardner Memorial Golf Scholarship P.O. Box 10061 Peoria, IL 61612- which was established in memory of his father.
