Gus Signater

On Saturday July 12, 2025 Gus Signater was called from this earthly place. He was born to the union of Chirlet Dorsey Signater and the late Matthew Signater, Sr. on May 2, 1944. He was one of fourteen children: 10 boys and 4 girls. Gus Signater accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Era Baptist Church.

Upon graduating from Batchelor high school in 1962, Gus moved to Los Angeles, California where he began working at Continental Graphics. There he met Emma Pearson, the love of his life. He later served in the United States Army from March,1968 to March,1974. In1970, Gus was deployed in Vietnam on combat duty where he served valiantly until he was severely wounded. This act of bravery earned him a Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, With 4 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross With Palm Unit Citation Badge, and Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal First Class Unit Citation.

His future wife Emma helped nourish him back to health from his military wounds. After leaving the military, Gus completed 90 semester hours of college credit toward a degree in Business Administration. Gus re-entered the workforce and was subsequently employed at March Air Force Base, where he retired after 15 years of service.

In 2002 Gus moved from Los Angeles, California and bought a home in Moreno Valley, California. Gus and Emma later married. No children were born to this union.

Gus is survived by his wife Emma Pearson Signater; two sisters, Elouise Signater Franklin (Elmo) and Annie Mae (Joseph) Signater Polar of Morganza, LA; four brothers Jessie (Doretha) Signater, Arthur (Jeralene) Signater and Johnnie Signater (Doris) all from Baton Rouge, LA and Authur J. (Sarah) Signater, of Murphy, Texas.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Matthew and Chirlet Dorsey Signater, two sisters Matilda (Louis) Signater Bibbins and Albertha (John) Signater Harris; five brothers Rayfield (Oceal) Harris, Matthew (Edolia) Signater, Jr., Roger (Rozella) Signater, Lionel (Diane) Signater and Earl (Shirley) Signater.
