Marilyn E. (Elwood) Brown, 81, of Perrysburg, OH departed this world Monday, April 15, 2013 after a long and beautiful life. She was born July 25, 1931 in Cortland, New York and moved to Detroit, MI as a young woman. She was a Graduate of Walled Lake High School in 1948 and that is where she met her future husband, James D. Brown, who preceded her in death in 2004. They were married August 26, 1951, in Orchard Lake, MI and spent 53 loving years together.
She was the loving Mother of 5 children and survived by; Ronald (Jan) Brown of Blue Hill, ME; Colleen (Richard) McCray of Toledo, OH; Linda (Bryce) Rhodes of Perrysburg, OH; Julie (Dixie) Dansercoer of Huldenberg, Belgium and Steven (Julie) Brown of Lambertville, MI. Also, she was survived by her brothers William (Shirley), Stuart (Jane), and Fred (Ruth) Elwood and preceded in death by her siblings John (Madonna); Robert (Laurette) Innes and Kathleen (Art) Miller.
Her greatest joy in life was her 16 grandchildren, which were comprised of 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The skills that she acquired at the Wilton Cake Decorating program were put to use immediately and she spent many years making birthday cakes for everyone that she loved. Also, her deviled eggs were always a must have for any occasion. She had the ability to meet the needs of all of her grandchildren with love and tenderness. Most Grandmothers cannot be found zipping around town in a red Ford Mustang, but she wasn’t most Grandmothers.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Perrysburg, OH and was active in all church affairs, from her joining in 1973, and until the end of her life. She was a member of ‘Martha Circle’, most recently, and was in the church choir for many years.
She valued her friendships very much and kept in contact with many people that she had met on her journey. A special thanks is extended to Laura Zirke and Elaine Stager, along with all of her ‘Saturday Evening Dinner Gang’, she truly enjoyed her evenings with them and spoke of them highly.
Friends will be received from 3 to 8 P.M., Saturday, April 20th at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH (419-874-3133). Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Sunday, April 21, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church, 200 W. Second St., Perrysburg, OH 43551 with burial to follow in Fort Meigs Cemetery.
