

The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada announces the death of Sister Anna Summers at Mount St. Joseph, Peterborough, on August 21, 2023. Sister Anna was born in Ottawa, Ontario in 1933. She was one of eight children.
Sister Anna is survived by her brother James, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is lovingly remembered by the members of her religious community, the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada.
Sister Anna is predeceased by her parents, the late Brigid Emma (Watt) and Patrick John Summers, as well as her brothers Linus, John, Ernest, Patrick and Bernard and her sister, Sister Eunice CSJ (Mary Theresa Eunice).
Prior to her entrance to the Sisters of Sr. Joseph of Peterborough in 1953 Anna worked four years at the Royal Bank of Canada in the Currency Department. After her reception to the Sisters, she received the religious name of Sister Mary Emma.
Sister Anna was a faithful worker in the Business Office of St. Joseph's Hospital in Peterborough for 29 years.
After retiring from the hospital, Sister Anna worked as Assistant to the General Treasurer for the Congregation, keeping up with the demands of the business day, always with a pleasant smile to greet anyone and any interruption at any given moment.
Sister Anna volunteered with the Canadian Lung Association for approximately five years in the Peterborough and Apsley area. She also worked in the Children's Catechetical Program at St. Anne's Church for four years with children 4-6 years. She was a Board member of St. Joseph's Hospital from September 1990 to 1994 and a member of the Board at St. Monica's Home for Specially Challenged Adults from September 1991-1999. Sister Anna worked at the Bingo every Tuesday evening to raise funds to support this home.
Sister Anna is remembered for her laughter and her good sense of humor, for her great problem-solving abilities in finance and for her love of children. She was always welcoming and loving.

A Private Mass of the Resurrection will be at Mount St. Joseph, Peterborough on Thursday, August 24, 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at Highland Park Cemetery, Peterborough, after the Mass.
