We did not see Archie very often but have warm memories of our holiday with Archie and Betty in 1972 and their visits to Scotland when we still lived there.

Short in stature, big on fun, Archie is a church friend who doted on our kids and was always good for a story while he plied you with a candy. Every Sunday, a greeting and a yap... Fuss over the growing kids and passing out hard candies to kids young and old. When we announced we were traveling to the UK for a wedding in south Scotland, he told us about Bo'Ness,the village of their youth.  We had a chance to visit there on our way and report back to the twinkle eyed pleasure of Archie.  A warm and wonderful man, even as his health was less secure.  Sorry Betty for the loss of your spunky fella - we enjoy your warm company and share your grief in this loss, thankful he didn't suffer but sad of the big hole the little fellow leaves in our lives. " Uncle Archie" was a very important part of my life growing up in Peterborough . Archie, along with Betty, and the children were an integral part of our extended family I always enjoyed and appreciated Archie's continued optimism , sense of humour, and joy in living life to the fullest. He will be sorely missed. Deepest condolences.

Although there was an ocean between us I still felt very close to my wee Uncle Archie. He, and my dear auntie Betty accommodated me numerous times when I came for a holiday. Archie always made sure my sun lounger was laid out in the back yard and there was a bottle of wine chilling for me. He even bought me my own glass! I was always bigger than Arch but he called me his wee niece. 
I will miss Uncle Archie very much but he will still make me smile when I think of all the happy times we shared. Night night my wee uncle.

l was very little girl the first time I met Uncle Archie. Everytime they come over to Scotland for holiday to see the whole family he was alway a happy man and made us laugh a lot ! He had a great personality! l am very glad me and my family went to Canada in 93 & 99 he was very proud to show us all the places in Canada. We really did enjoy it and thanks for a great memories. I WAS SO SADDENED TO HEAR OF MY UNCLE ARCHIE'S DEATH. I HAD TO PUT DOWN THE PHONE AND TAKE A DEEP BREATH. SO MANY MEMORIES, SO MANY YEARS. HE HAD A GOOD SENSE OF HUMOUR. AS A YOUNG GIRL, HE WOULD TEASE ME WHENEVER HE SAW ME, ALWAYS WITH A TWINLKE IN HIS EYE. I WILL MISS HIM. TO AUNT BETTY, FAYE, JILL AND COLIN, THERE ARE NO WORDS

To all the Ballantines, we send hugs and deepest sympathy.  We will miss Archie so much - his hugs and kisses, the firm handshake, the twinkle in his eye, and his stories.  He was a "wee" man but you had to look up to him with respect.  Archie was close to the Bowden family for over 60 years and he and Betty made the trek to London many times to attend family events, weddings, and to lend support when needed. He always had a smile and a laugh for us - no one can fill his place.

Archie you may have made Canada your home but you were a Bonessian and proud Scotsman to the core. You loved your football (soccer!)You enjoyed a wee dram,and you could sing the Bo'ness Fair songs. I can see you now, looking down on us, having a guid blether with your wee sis, Elizabeth (Mum), and Eric(Dad) and Jim Beaumont. Our times together in Scotland and Canada may have been fairly short but certainly unforgettable. Our thoughts are sent across the waters, from all the clan in Broxburn, Scotland. Archie you were the life of Wellington st. My memories of you will always be with me. My god bless you and rest in piece.

Where can one even begin with when they talk about how GREAT a person you were "Arch". Father of all us kids on Wellington St. Will always cherish the fond memories growing up around your home. You sure taught me some lessons about growing up and all has been heard and very much appreciated. Love and Peace "Dad" until we meet again.

Archie you were the best Father in law a girl could ask for. I loved your humor and listening to your stories. So many wonderful memories you shared with me. I am honored to have known you.
