BRIDGMAN, Beverly Jane, passed away peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Jan 13, 2026 at the age of 88, with her daughter by her side. Predeceased by her brother Paul (2020) and second husband Frederick Thompson (2018). Cherished mother of Jennifer Harrison, to whom she was forever loving and devoted. She will be fondly remembered by sister in law Marilyn, nephew Michael (Ann Marie), niece Tracy (Scott), great nephews and nieces, lifelong best friend and cousin Mary Jane (Jack), cousin Sandra (Erich) and extended family and friends.
From an early age, Bev had a sense of curiosity and an independent spirit. She enjoyed travelling and always said how it opened her eyes to so much. Shortly after her 21st birthday, she moved to Bermuda where she spent a year living and working. At 23, she travelled through England and Europe on her own – unheard of for a young woman at the time. Later on, she and Fred enjoyed many trailering adventures through the east coast of Canada and the US.
Music played a central role in Bev’s life. She came from a musical family and started playing piano and taking lessons from a young age. She loved to sing and participated in school choirs, orchestras and musical productions. After high school she took voice lessons at the Royal Conservatory and was a vocalist with the Harvey Perrin Singers, performing at venues around Toronto including Massey Hall. Later, she taught piano to children and adults in Peterborough. No day would be complete without listening to music – this was a true necessity in her life.
Bev was an exceptionally kind person, always caring for and helping others. She volunteered countless hours over the years to the Kawartha Pine Ridge Lung Association, Peterborough school libraries, and Family Services offices. She had a passion for reading and after retiring from her position at the Ontario Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations, she volunteered at the Peterborough Public Library and delivered books to seniors.
Bev wished for everyone to have love in their heart and to pass it on to others. She also believed that a sense of humor is essential in life and that we should all try to have a laugh every day. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her daughter, extended family, friends and neighbors.
Family and friends will be received at the Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road on Tuesday January 20, 2026 for visitation at 11 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12 noon. Burial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Beverly's name to Osteoporosis Canada.
