Catherine Bernice Jolly passed peacefully in her 97th year on June 5th at Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC). Cathy was born in Toronto to George Breathat and Katherine Grace Chapman, the younger sister of George Alfred Chapman, Pilot Officer RCAF (pre-deceased). She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Toronto, where she met D’Alton Benness Jolly (pre-deceased). After marrying in 1950, they raised 4 children, Irene Canivet (Doug), Louise Calhoun (pre-deceased) (Bruce), Jocelyn Purchase (Chuck) and Jeffrey Jolly.
In 1987, after living in Woodbridge and then Toronto, Cathy and D’Alton moved to their dream property at Wallace Point on the edge of the Otonabee River. Cathy, who had always been an avid member of the United Church of Canada, became very active in her local community, particularly through church activities and quilting groups. She also loved visits from her fifteen grandchildren: Andre, Charyl (Matthew), Paul (Amy), Lisa, Aeryn (Johnny), Daniel, Graeme (Jennifer), Bryan, Scott (Julie), Jordan (Lindsey), Kelly, Joel (Sarah), Danielle (Eric), Laura, and Alex; as well as her great grandchildren: Cian, Ailbhe, Tadhg, Oisin, Carrson, Aiddon, Maxx, Alex, Ella, and Evan.
Cathy moved to Royal Gardens in Peterborough in 2007 and quickly embraced her new community, making numerous friends and becoming active in everything, particularly quilting, euchre, chess and art. She was surrounded by many wonderful friends and learning and creative opportunities that she treasured for the remainder of her life.
A Celebration of Life for Cathy will be held at Royal Gardens on Saturday, July 13th, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
