A nursing school chum and long-time friend of Cheryl's, I offer this poem to her, her family and friends:

          Poem for Cheryl

Brave, wise, gentle creature,
You understood everything of the heart
Your kindness blessed us all.
So subtle, unobtrusive, light as a feather
Soft as velvet, or a down pillow
Ahhh.' we've sighed unconsciously in your comforting presence.

As fireflies do, you've twinkled your last with us
and have flown off into the night sky
Your light gone, your absence a sudden empty darkness
I sense you somewhere far out in the Cosmos...
So very distant from us, back here on the earth 

Until I listen for you 
With my heart
Now I feel you, grinning and chuckling
Your reassurance
Of course I'm nearby! Why wouldn't I be?
Far away, yet near, but gone, yet somehow not, 
perhaps somewhere in between
In an unknowable form and place, 
Resonating on eternity's plane

You are a beautifully filled-in colouring book in my memory
A song so very sweetly sung
A Gift to my life, and to that of so many others
A Love soul, vibrating warmly, shining and dancing in the       very air around us!

Dear Taveroff/Laskin/Nefsky Family.  Learning of Cousin Cheryl's untimely passing is so very sad.  We remembered family times together.  May all your memories help to sustain you through this difficult time.   We listened to the most beautiful and heartfelt eulogies and music, while watching pictures and videos of Cheryl and her wonderful family.  Her life was so celebrated with love, laughter, caring and compassion. A true image of Cheryl's personality. As teenagers, we were inseparable! Facing the world together, we were solid! We connected years later and there she was, the same smiling Cheryl. A loss for us all.

I was deeply saddened to read of your beloved Cheryl's passing.  The Y was where we would see each other and what a pleasure it was for me when that happened.  After the fitness class we would sometimes share a coffee and have wonderful conversations.  She was a caring human being. 
May precious memories of your much cherished Cheryl bring you some peace and comfort and be a source of strength to help you through this difficult time.

Dear Mike, Jesse and Leigh:
I am deeply saddened to hear of Cheryl's passing.  I remember Cheryl to be a very compassionate and caring person, very much like her father.  The Laskin family openly welcomed us into their home when we moved from Winnipeg to Hamilton and gave us a place to stay.  I fondly remember the times the Kartash and Laskin families spent together in Hamilton on many occasions. Cheryl's free spirit and loving nature will be forever remembered.
