Dorothy Jane Fisher

Passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2015 in her 87th year at the Port Colborne Hospital. Dorothy loved her family dearly, raising her four children on her own after the sudden death of her beloved husband Frank at the age of 35. Dorothy taught her children the love of hospitality, adventure, independence and a conviction of heart. Dorothy will be missed by her children Joan Simpson (John), Howard (Hank) Fisher (Kristine), Donna Teeple (Mark) and Anne Wickens (Ron); dear sister Margaret Lowes and brother Malcolm Lowes (Helen). She will be remembered fondly by her grandchildren James Simpson, Laura Trought (Greg), Georgia Fisher, Eva Fisher (Brad Vandermeulen), Fraser Teeple (Bailey), Graham Teeple, Joshua Wickens (deceased), Brandon Wickens (Courtney) and Jenna Wickens. Dorothy often spoke of her wonderful great grandchildren Owen Trought, Carter Trought, Wes Teeple and new baby Teeple and Emma Wickens and was excited by the joy and hope they hold for the future. Dorothy’s parents Donald and Laura Lowes lived on a farm in Cavan, Ontario and it was here that Dorothy’s love of the outdoors and hard work were established. Dorothy graduated from the Peterborough Civic Hospital School of Nursing in 1950 and always loved to talk about her nursing career and her nursing friends. Through all life’s challenges Dorothy relied on the unfailing love and guidance she received from God. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am followed at 11:00 am by a memorial service in Dorothy’s honour on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough, Ontario, 705-745-4683.
