With heavy hearts we say not goodbye but see you later to Joseph Douglas Whalen. Doug, in his 92nd year, was a lifelong resident of Keene, Ontario who peacefully left us on February 20, 2024 to be reunited with his beloved late wife Greeta (Watkins) (2003). He was the son of the late Fred and Gladys (Steele) Whalen and a brother to Fred (Margaret) Whalen and the late Rendal (Dorothy) Whalen. Brother-in-law to Dianne (Ivan) Mills and the late Norma Crayden. He was the proud father of Jamie, Janice (Mark) McClennan, and Fred. Also missing him greatly is his fur-baby Maggie. He was much loved by his grandchildren Sarah (John) Czerniawski and Samantha (Bryan) Blackbourn as well as great-grandchildren Faye and Alice Czerniawski, Hazel and Edison Blackbourn and step-great-grandchild Landon Blackbourn. We would like to thank the staff of PRHC emergency department and B3 for their care of dad while he was in hospital. Our greatest gratitude is extended to the all the staff and volunteers at Hospice Peterborough, who made our dad’s last week with us the best it could be. Their kindness and caring for all will never be forgotten. Keeping to Doug’s wishes cremation has taken place and will be followed by a private family gathering. We ask that any donations you may wish to make in Doug’s memory be directed to Hospice Peterborough.
