Frank Elroy Martichenko

On Saturday, December 14, 2013 in the 88th year. Beloved husband of the late Agnes Marie (nee Yanchus) (Feb. 2008) for 57 years. Loving father of Dr. Mary Anne Staples (John) of Cavan, Deborah Blackmore (Roger), Dr. Wayne Martichenko (Janice) both of Peterborough and Dianne Morton (Jim) of London. Proud GPa of ten and great GPa to four little girls. Frank was the fourth of thirteen from an Ukranian farm family in Sonningdale, Saskatchewan. Although one of the eldest, he had a hankering for the bright lights of the city which lead him east after his army service. First to Elora and then to Bethany where he owned Bethany Motorworks. He finished his working career at General Motors after 30 years. Farming remained a hobby as well as golf and he achieved fame and notoriety as the 2009 World Cones Champion at the age of 83! Frank was a generous spirit who donated his time and space in his car to help others in need. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am until 1:00 pm followed by a funeral service at 1:30 pm on Friday, December 27, 2013 at COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street. Interment to follow at Highland Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Omemee Medical Centre. Online condolences may be made at

Just heard this week of Frank's passing. He was a gentle man, kind and loving to both people and cows.....we enjoyed the time he spent with our family. Both he and Agnes would play cards at our home in Omemee quite often. The boys also worked on the farm and slung a few hundred bails of hay!! Condolences from Lynn, Lindsay (Denstedt), Chris and Brandon Stoutenburg.

Dear Mary Anne, Debbie, Wayne, Dianne and families. Doug and I send our love to all of you. We always delighted in spending time with Frank at the Martichenko gatherings, pleased with being included. It gave us a chance to better know and appreciate him. He lived a full, thoughtful life right to the end. A kind and gentle man. Love... Doug and Estelle
