Thank you Joe for the following:
April 22, 2009
Today we said goodbye to one of the hardest working gentleman this city has ever known. His name is Fred Ford. Fred died at the age of 95 years and during his adult lifetime, he accomplished more good for mankind than most of us will ever imagine.
He was a member of St John’s Anglican Church his whole life, where his Father was the sexton. His Mother was also very active in the Church.
Community and Church Awards:
1969 He received the Long Service Medal from the Boy Scouts of Canada.
1970 He received the Civic Award of Merit from the City of Peterborough.
1977 He received the Anglican Church Bishops Award for meritorious service to
the Church.
Fred joined the Scott’s Plains Kiwanis Club on April 7, 1977 and has received numerous
Awards since then.
1981/82 He received the Distinguished Presidents Award – only 4 of these awards were given out since the Club was founded in 1975.
1989 He was one of the 3 Kiwanians who conceived the idea to construct the Scott’s Plains Apartment Complex.
1989 He received the Kiwanis International Fellowship Award
1991/92 He received the Distinguished Service Award.
1994/95 He received the Mel Osborne Fellowship Pre-IDD Award
1996/2002 He was the Club Historian
1977/2002 He received the Legion of Honour for 25 years service
2006 Margaret Nelson of Kiwanis International advised that numerous awards are given out each year. Some are awarded prior to the actual anniversary date. But she said not many 30 year pins are awarded to members in their 93rd year of life especially to a Seniors Club Member.
As we said a final farewell this afternoon, Canon Ron Davidson said that Fred was an inspiration to all who ever came in contact with him
