McGovarin, Frederick George (December 15, 1943 – November 30, 2025)
Peacefully passed away at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Margaret “Lonie” Auld. Predeceased by his wife Carol Meecham. Loving father of Sherry Mazynk (Philip), Mike (Cathy), Annalise, Christine, and Julie McGovarin. Proud grandfather of Christina, Domenico, Oz, Liam, Kaylah, Robin, and Jolon. Dear brother of Mary LeFave (Frank), Heather Taylor (late Dean), Peter (Annelies), Stephen (Valerie), Jane Crawford and cherished brother-in-law of Edmond Meecham. Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
As a young man, Fred started his career as a draftsman for the GE Company. Fred decided to use his drafting skills and love of football to work with young people in high school. He taught drafting at St. Clair Secondary School in Sarnia Ontario and at Campbellford District High School. As a football coach, he took his team all the way to C.O.S.S.A. Fred then owned and operated “McGovarin Paving” then later in life managed his contracting company “I Love My Fence”. He used his skills in the Turks and Caicos Islands, teaching those skills and building the future. His family will remember him for being a kind, loving and generous man who made a meaningful impact on many lives. When Fred wasn’t working, he volunteered at the Good Neighbours Care Centre Food Share in Peterborough.
In keeping with Fred’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life service will be held on at a later date at Omemee Baptist Church, 21 Sturgeon Street North, Omemee, Ontario.
In honour of Fred, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Favourite memories and condolences can be shared at www.ashburnhamfuneral.ca
