WILSON, GORDON ELMER “Gord” – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gord, after a brief illness, at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, on Friday, December 17th, 2010, in his 89th year. Loving husband of the late Jeanne Wilson (nee Ball). Devoted father of Shauna Wilson-Wipond (Kevin) of Calgary, and the late Garth Wilson (Carolyn) and Shelley Ackroyd (Alan). Loving grandfather of Marley, Ethan & Michaela Wipond, Tyler & Rayne Krug-Wilson, and Lyndsey, Dean & Grayson Ackroyd. Son of the late John Wilson and Frances Abbott and step-father George Meek, and brother of the late Verena, Minerva and Elroy. Gord will also be remembered by many other relatives and friends. Gord was born in Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan and was raised during the Great Depression. At 17 years of age, he left for Northern Ontario and worked in logging camps. At the age of 19, in 1942, Gord joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, and proudly served as a Navigator/Bomber in the North Atlantic for the duration WWII. In 1945, following a courtship of 3 months, he married the love of his life, Jeanne Ball. They built a house on Chemong Road that remained the family home for 63 years. Gord ran a successful plumbing business for 30 years. After “retiring” in 1974, he joined the Maintenance Dept. at Trent University where he was fondly known as “Dean of Plumbing” for 7 years. Gord was one of the founding members of the Peterborough Air Force Club, 428 Wing and remained involved throughout his life. He was, and continued to be a loyal & devoted citizen of Peterborough. Gord was involved in civic politics, was quick to share his opinion on issues facing the city, and was a frequent contributor to letters to the editor in the Peterborough Examiner. The family would like to acknowledge the friendship and loving support provided by Bill & Judy Reid, Bryce Wooldridge, and Brian Murray. Thanks also to the CNIB, Veterans Affairs, Peterborough Manor, and the PRHC Palliative Care Unit for their kindness and care.
