

At Kawartha Heights Retirement Home on Wednesday January 8, 2025 in her 87th year. Beloved wife for 51 years to the late Lawrence Parker Shannon. Dear sister of John Byers of Grafton, Wayne Byers of Port Hope and Donna McCrone-Desjardins (husband Rene) of Nanaimo, British Columbia. Loving Aunt to Dean and Darryl Byers, Diane Elder and Scott Byers (Claudia). Great Aunt to Alexander and Thomas Elder and Emma and Bethany Byers. Predeceased by her parents Fay and Frank Byers and her brothers Gerald and Glen Byers. She will also be missed by her very special friend Trisha West. Helen enjoyed a 30 year career with Siemens Milltronics in Peterborough, working in various positions including customer service, sales and purchasing for orders throughout Canada and the United States.
During her married years with Lawrence they travelled to Europe several times visiting France, England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. They also visited the West Coast several times to visit family and take in Expo 86. Both enjoyed taking day road trips within Ontario and the US as well as driving to the east coast of Canada.
Helen developed her creative talent over the years, and became a skilled painter enjoying sketching and doing oil landscapes. She also enjoyed interior decorating, nature, wildlife, and the companionship of her beloved cats over the years. Both Helen and her late husband Lawrence enjoyed hockey games, and were season ticket holders for 50 years attending Memorial Centre hockey nights, never missing a Peterborough Pete’s game. Helen was very passionate about Bingo and went to the bingo hall almost every week. She often won, and made many friends over the years.
Helen was generous with her time and care of others in need. She committed much of her free time, both while working and after retirement to taking care of her late mother, Fay Byers, and brother Glen, as well as her late Mother-in-law Mrs. Shannon.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Little Lake Cemetery, Peterborough. If desired, donations may be made in Helen’s memory to SPCA or the Canadian Cancer Society. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy made be made at ComstockKaye.com
