My sincere condolences Denise, Scott & Sean. I always enjoyed Howie's big smile. 

I grew up with Howard in the Don Lita neighbourhood in Sudbury.  I have fond memories playing touch football with him and the gang in that playground.  We also attended Lasalle Secondary at the same time.  I haven't seen him in quite a few years but always liked the man.  RIP Howie, and condolences to his family and brother Brian.

So very sad to hear of Howie's passing.  We certainly go back a long way, both being proud Lancer graduates of Lasalle Secondary School in Sudbury.  Who ever would have thought that after graduating high school we would end up working for the same company (CPR), let alone working together in Smiths Falls and Toronto. So, so many memories of Howie, and all good ones. My deepest condolences to Denise, Sean, Scott and your families.  Your suffering is over Howie.  Like your Dad, you fought the battle with strength, courage and dignity.  I'll see you on the other side, but not for a while.  Keep the beer cold.  God Bless.  Scott Seeney

Am sorry to hear of Howard's passing . 
Howard was good to me , helped me out  and gave me inspiration to keep working hard. 
I used to enjoy the phone call and wait to hear him  say  "  what's up "

Where to begin. 

I first ‘met’ Howie when he was in Montreal - where he was transferred as a manager of sorts to fix Montreal’s supposedly inefficient rail ops. I was a lowly temp pull-down supervisor in the tower when not working as a hogger.

Things changed and I went to Smiths Falls terminal as a secondary manager in 1996 and Howard went back to Toronto in Road ops. 

Things changed a few years later and my boss transferred out of Smith's Falls and Howard became my new boss. 

I can remember well the first of his visits to the Falls. He was feeling me out and me him. He had such a great sense of things and a superb sense of humour. 

We were hardly ever boss and employee- he had respect for my work and rarely questioned as things ran pretty well. We were more like two guys / friends just doing what we loved. 

One day he told me of his Dad and Parkinson’s and it was hereditary. I was a little shocked. But he was open about this.   

A few years later I left the Railway to pursue other options and Howie stayed on in Toronto. It wasn’t until a few years later he was unable to work.

As fate would have it they moved to Hastings - where I was living with my partner ( now my wife of many years). We were able to reconnect - mostly with Denise. 

Howie ended up in Warkworth care facility so we were able to see him a couple of times before we moved to Kingston. 

I have often thought of Howie over the years and how he was such a great boss and friend to me in my years at Smith’s Falls. He let me be the manager I needed to become - always sticking up for me in the CPR political arena. 

Howie THANKS for the support and good times and being there for me when needed. It was my pleasure to know you.
